Per Danilo Petrucci doveva essere un weekend di sofferenza, lo è stato, ma nessuno si aspettava che andasse in crescendo di risultati. Dopo il nono posto del sabato Petrux ha ottenuto il nono posto anche nella Superpole Race e poi un incredibile sesto in gara 2, migliore tra i piloti indipendenti.
In Superpole Race il gruppo è partito molto aggressivo, Danilo non voleva prendersi rischi ed è scivolato in quattordicesima posizione, ma già dopo il primo giro – grazie a numerose cadute – si è ritrovato decimo, in scia alla Yamaha di Jonny Rea; nono dopo la caduta di Bautista. A quel punto Petrux ha cercato solo di finire la gara con un risultato che gli avrebbe permesso di conquistare un punto e di avanzare una fila sulla griglia di gara 2.
Nella terza e ultima gara del weekend la sua partenza è stata ottima e all’uscita della prima “esse” era già sesto. Subìto il sorpasso da Bautista, il gruppo si è sgranato, ma Danilo ha sempre tenuto un distacco inferiore ai due secondi sulla coppia Locatelli-Bassani. Da metà gara in avanti il pilota della Kawasaki ha accusato un calo e il #9 lo ha ripreso e sorpassato a quattro giri dalla fine. Negli ultimi chilometri è riuscito a tenere la posizione tagliando il traguardo sesto, migliore tra i piloti privati. Con questi risultati Petrucci porta a casa 18 punti in totale ed è nono in Campionato. La lotta per il titolo di miglior pilota indipendente lo vede staccato di 18 punti da Iannone.
Giornata positiva anche in Supersport dove Montella ha ottenuto un altro secondo posto. A differenza di ieri ha sofferto, non aveva il passo per seguire Huertas. Partito in testa, Yari è stato superato ed è tornato in testa solo per un “lungo” dello spagnolo. Huertas si è presto rimesso davanti, fino alla bandiera rossa che ha fermato la gara con tre giri di anticipo. Ora Montella è secondo in campionato, staccato di undici punti dal suo diretto rivale di oggi, e delle prossime gare. Ora per la Superbike un altro mese di pausa fino alla gara di metà luglio a Donington Park, in Inghilterra.

Se ieri abbiamo perso la gara oggi abbiamo fatto il massimo. Adrian ne aveva più di me e paradossalmente la bandiera rossa mi ha avvantaggiato, non avrei potuto attaccarlo. Anzi, mi sarei dovuto difendere negli ultimi giri. Oggi avevo poco feeling all’anteriore, ma siamo comunque riusciti ad arrivare secondi. A questo weekend di casa darei un 8, sarebbe stato 9 se avessimo vinto ieri, ma siamo competitivi per il campionato e ci riproveremo a Donington.

Danilo ha fatto qualcosa di eccezionale perchè fisicamente era in condizioni difficili! Già dalla prima giornata andavamo avanti turno dopo turno chiedendoci se avrebbe potuto fare quello dopo, invece il pilota è sempre andato oltre i suoi limiti e abbiamo portato a casa ottimi punti per la classifica. Non resta che aspettare che torni in forma per averlo al top a Donington. Nella Supersport dobbiamo ancora lavorare se vogliamo lottare per il titolo. Yari non aveva lo stesso feeling di ieri e questo gli ha impedito di lottare per la vittoria. In ottica campionato i due secondi posti sono comunque un ottimo risultato quindi usciamo da Misano molto soddisfatti. Voglio ringraziare prima di tutto i piloti, le squadre che hanno lavorato alla grande e tutti gli ospiti che sono venuti a trovarci. Felice che abbiano potuto godersi le emozioni del weekend insieme a noi.
